There are many ways in which the concept could be interpreted. As when looking deeper into the definition of the term, within design, it is clear that almost everything links to the word in some way.
For example:
· Digital design – Emails/ internet (moves from place to place)
· Product design – Objects that move (hands on a clock)
· Interior design – Doors (opening and closing)
· Textiles – clothing (movement when worn)
· Furniture design- collapsible chairs/tables (movable/changeable)
These are just a small selection of current objects that could have come from the brief in which I have been given.
The broad scale of the brief makes it difficult to decide on a design, However I have decided, that for me, the pathway that I am most interested in is furniture design. And so I shall look into how I want to link ‘locomotion’ to a design within my chosen pathway.
My interpretation of 'Locomotion'
The definition of locomotion is the ability to or the act of moving from place to place.
Now this can be taken literally like a car for example or it can be taken and examined deeper and result in designs such as digital (emails) or textiles (clothing).
Everything moves, nothing is still, for example when looking at materials, wood expands and contract due to something a natural as weather, also if you think about the manufacturing processes, all designs are developed and changed as well as the materials being manipulated to create a final product.
And so, it is apparent that the idea of locomotion is an extremely vague and broad concept. This I believe is to enable us to explore our pathway and give us the freedom to examine different possibilities.

Not only are objects and products associated with locomotion, but there are also natural factors such as the wind that causes the movement.
Another Path
I also started thinking about whether the brief would allow me to look at products that have the appearance of movement rather than literally moving, For example, the shape of an object, maybe a wave, as we associate water with movement as it is constantly flowing, and so the appearance could give the impression of movement/'locomotion'.
